About CMBC

There has been a Baptist Church in Crewkerne since 1820 when a group of local Christians began to worship together in the building that is now the Church Hall. The church was extended in 1880 and again in 1932.

In the mid 1870's the members of the church at Crewkerne decided to build a mission in the nearby village of Misterton and the Baptist Chapel was opened there in 1876.

The Chapel was refurbished by members of the church during 2005/2006 with the help of a number of local people, including some of the parents of our Kids’ Clubs children.

Work to construct the new entrance, toilet and kitchen, and an additional meeting room, at the Misterton Chapel began during June 2008. The antiquated buildings at the rear of the site have now been demolished and the task of preparing the area cleared for the erection of the new building is progressing. The works should be completed by October 2008 but in the meantime the Chapel will only be used for Sunday services. During the period of the building contract, we are very grateful to the local Women’s Institute for allowing us to use the W.I. Hall for our regular Kids’ Clubs.

Crewkerne and Misterton Baptist Church is one of the churches which serve the local community. We are a small but friendly group of people of all ages. Many of our regular worshippers have joined the church in recent years. People work in a variety of local places of employment - businesses, factories, in care services, schools etc.

All-age Service at Misterton Holiday Bible Club Finale

Most of us live in Crewkerne, Misterton and Merriott, or in neighbouring rural areas. During the week we provide a number of different opportunities to meet together, and there is provision for people of all ages.

We Believe

  • In God who is Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
  • That Jesus, the Son of God, died and rose again.
  • That God wants us to have a relationship with Him, in Jesus.
  • That this relationship can be ours through a personal faith.
  • That believers' baptism is a witness to our faith.
  • That God calls us to worship Him together.
  • That God calls us to bring the love of Jesus to the heart of our community as we serve Him in it.
