There has been a Baptist Church in Crewkerne since 1820, when a group of local Christians began to worship together in the building that is now the Church Hall. The church was extended in 1830 and 1880, and the school rooms were added in 1932.

North Street, Crewkerne

In the mid 1870s the members of the church at Crewkerne decided to build a mission in the nearby village of Misterton and the Baptist Chapel was opened there in 1876.

Middle Street, Misterton

The Chapel at Misterton was refurbished during 2005/2006 and new kitchen and toilet facilities were constructed in 2008 together with a new meeting room, and disabled access.

We Believe

In God who is Father, Son and Holy Spirit

That Jesus, the Son of God, died for our sins and salvation, and rose again

That God wants us to have a relationship with Him through a personal faith in Jesus

That God calls us to worship Him together, listening to God's Spirit, as revealed in the Bible, God's inspired Word

That God calls us to bring the love of Jesus to our community as we, alongside Christians in other denominations, serve him there

Tony Wilson Testimony July 2010

Given to the congregation on the
first anniversary of his Baptism

Where have I come from and where am I going?

12th July 2009 Nearly a year on from my Baptism

The end of my baptismal testimonial stated;

........I had found the Love, joy and belonging that was missing in my life.

I am now ready to journey into new life

Through the waters into New Life of belonging to Jesus

Forgiveness unearned and freely given because of His cross.

1 Peter, Chapter 2, Verses 1 - 3

1 Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind.

2 Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation,

3 now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.

I'm a baby Christian still growing and learning.

To grow in faith means to me, to develop a closer, more intimate relationship with God.

Not always been that easy, there have been times over the past 12 months, when there just doesn't feel that much progress is being made. Sometimes getting the impression that I've reached a plateau.

However I've never doubted my faith.

Four areas that have helped me grow in faith; Prayer, Bible Study, Fellowship, and Service

Prayer

Prayer is the foundation of my relationship with God. It is through prayer that I can communicate with God on a personal level.

I don't pray enough!

I don't find prayer that easy,

Words refuse to form and even when they do, there's no sense of depth to them.

But I'm still in my infancy and babies do find words difficult.

Bible Study

Bible study and daily Bible readings add greatly to the development of my Christian faith.

Life 1 & 2 with Lucas by Jeff Lucas (books given by Peter Woolway to Jan & I after our Baptism) has been a great help in providing daily Bible readings throughout the year

Led by Charles Freebury and Peter Woolway Our study evenings of Going somewhere last year and Going together this year

Fellowship

Fellowship with you guys is another vital aspect to my growing Christian faith. Church membership and regular involvement in CMBC activities

Participation in church activities provides a place in which to worship together and to learn more about living a life of faith.

Nothing bolsters one's faith more than praying with you for others, then witnessing God's answer to that prayer.

Service

A tremendous way to grow in faith is through acts of service. It sometimes goes against my nature to selflessly serve others

However when the act of service is done in love and with no thought of compensation, a deep sense of satisfaction and joy is the reward. For me this is a direct communion with the heart of God and brings about further deepening of my faith.

Finally where am I going?

My faith is growing stronger through the love of our saviour Jesus Christ

Well let me read this to you

2 Peter, Chapter 1, verses 3 – 10

3 His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.

4 Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.

5 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge;

6 and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness;

7 and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love.

8 For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

9 But if anyone does not have them, he is nearsighted and blind, and has forgotten that he has been cleansed from his past sins.

10 Therefore, my brothers, be all the more eager to make your calling and election sure. For if you do these things, you will never fall,

11 and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

Amen
